What Influences Employability?
Employability is:
"the skills and abilities that allow you to be employed"
(Cambridge Dictionary, 2019)

In the events industry one of the main skills that makes you employable as a practitioner is your technical ability, this is key to you being able to carry out your job. Developing technical ability can be achieved through practice and experience, it also can be developed through training and courses that are offered by manufacturers. examples of this are Avolites Training Academy and Audinates Dante certification. the former is an in-person paid training with 2 levels, one in operating and the other in programming. the latter is a free set of certifications for the Dante networking protocol that takes place online. By completing pieces of training like these an employer has credit to your stated ability which would make it easier to employ you. (avolites, n.d.) (Audinate, 2016)

While training courses certainly benefit technical knowledge actual practice and experience are also key to appealing to employers. Through social media, a practitioner can create a portfolio to show their progression and development through the work they do. Social media has a wide reach with 4.95 billion users worldwide (Dean, 2024) this makes many platforms useful for promotion and exposure. Each platform has differing ways of presenting your media as well as different audiences that will see this media.

(Kepios, 2024)
The table above shows Instagram is the favourite platform amongst those aged 16-34. one issue with this graph is platforms like WhatsApp are included, these platforms don't offer the ability to reach new people with content in the same way as platforms like Instagram and Facebook with a focus on messeges.
Whilst Instagram is the favourite amongst 16-34-year-olds Facebook holds a higher percentage of all other age groups apart from female internet users aged 35-44 where Instagram holds 15.4% above Facebook's 13.5%. What this means is that differing age ranges prefer different platforms making choosing only one platform limit your reach to possible employers.

(Kemp, 2024)
Whilst choosing one platform can limit a user's reach, by using multiple platforms that deliver media in different ways such as Instagram with a more relaxed photo-sharing focus and LinkedIn with a focus on employment, a user can connect to a wide range of people increasing their chance of being seen by a possible employer. Furthermore, the data above shows how many Internet users use multiple platforms of social media with 85% of LinkedIn users having either a Facebook or an Instagram account this means that by using larger platforms with a less serious focus on employment like Instagram you have the opportunity to reach those on platforms like LinkedIn which can be used to connect in a more professional way, sharing qualifications and skills that can be easily listed on your profile.
